COVID-19 GUIDELINES

To ensure consistency and safety in protecting the public.

What is required of you, the patient:

Any patient in a vulnerable demographic with secondary health conditions, autoimmune conditions, over the age of 60 or resides in a residential home is strongly recommended to forgo treatment due to the increased risk.  Please see information from NL Government .

Social distancing is implemented in all areas of the clinic space, between receptionist, other patients and other staff. Patients are not recommended to show up early for appointments.  Please fill out any necessary forms online before arriving for your appointment.  If you do arrive early, please wait in your car until 5 minutes before your appointment time.

Patients are required to wear a well fitted face mask that covers their nose and mouth. Homemade masks are permitted if they meet the requirements mentioned. Masks are to be worn for the entire visit. 

SCREENING QUESTIONS:

Please answer these questions before booking your appointment:

Q1. Do you have a fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing?

Q2. Do you have close contact with anyone with acute respiratory illness? 

Q3. Have you had a confirmed case of COVID-19 or had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 without full PPE? 

Q4. Do you have two or more of the following symptoms: Sore throat, runny nose/sneezing, Nasal congestion? Hoarse voice? Difficulty swallowing? Decrease or loss of sense of smell? Chills? Headaches? Unexplained fatigue/malaise? Diarrhea? Abdominal Pain? Nausea/Vomiting? Small Red or purple spots on your hands and/or feet?

Q5. Are you over the age of 60 and are experiencing any of the following: delirium, falls, acute functional decline, or worsening of chronic conditions? 

Q6. Have you travelled outside of Newfoundland in the past 14 days? Or in close contact with anyone who has without full PPE? 

 

If response to ALL of the screening questions are NO - proceed with scheduling an appointment

If response to ANY of the screening questions is YES - Do not schedule an appointment, and call 811 immediately.

If response to ANY of the screening questions is UNKNOWN - Do not schedule an appointment.

 

 

Therapist Guidelines:

Therapists are required to wear a 3 ply or 2 ply medical mask (Not N-95), homemade masks are not permitted. Masks to be changed when taken off once, becomes contaminated, risk of contamination or end of day. However, the Therapists at this clinic will be changing masks AFTER every patient.  

Therapists are recommended to wear a form of eye protection such as face shield or goggles while treating or in close proximity (less than 2 ft) to client. And are required to wear one when doing intra-oral work.

Gloves are strongly recommended especially with treatments near the face. The Therapists at this clinic WILL be wearing a new set of gloves with each patient.  With the use of elbow and forearm - it will be up to the patient on whether or not the therapist will use skin to skin contact or wear a protective sleeve. 

Therapists must wear a gown/clinic coat/covering (which covers front of body from neck to mid-thigh) that can be changed between patients when becomes contaminated or soiled from patient transfer of lotion/oil. The Therapists at this clinic will wear an apron, and WILL change after each patient.

Therapists must use extreme caution and proper protocols to be used when removing, washing and discarding of PPE. The area where PPE is put on will be separated as much as possible from the area where it is removed and discarded. 

Therapists must use proper hand washing even when using PPE.

Therapists are recommended to treat 6 patients  a day (but may treat more). 

Clinic Guidelines:

Appointment bookings will have a minimum of 15 minutes between patients to allow for proper disinfecting and cleaning of treatment rooms, reception and restroom. 

Invoices will be kept on file, and sent electronically where possible; Payments are to be contactless (no cash payments).

 

Preparedness Plan: If there is an exposure, or reason to think there is one.

811 will be called and explained the situation to receive guidance.

All appointments will be cancelled and clinic closed for further notice.

With guidance from the Department of Health, and CMTNL all patients and staff will be contacted. 

**Therapists will not divulge the personal information of the patient, including their name or any personal health information as outlined in the PHIA.**

 

All Patients have the right to refuse or be denied treatment if they are not comfortable or can’t comply to the new measures.
