Gua Sha & Cupping Massage

Ancient Healing Wisdom

Gua Sha and Cupping Massage are ancient pain relieving healing techniques that releases stuck energy from beneath the skin to promote Qi and blood flow. Gua Sha has many benefits including: relieving pain especially from repetitive overuse, inexplicable muscle pain, and pain due to past injuries. It also can relieve the symptoms of a common cold or flu.

Cupping helps to relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

The basic Gua Sha technique uses a Gua Sha tool, such as a ceramic soup spoon, to lightly scrape the surface of the skin using a simple technique for about 30 seconds (or more). For Cupping Massage the therapist puts special cups on your skin to create suction. Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. Cupping can access deeper muscles and joints that Gua Sha does not reach.

WHAT ARE THOSE RED MARKS?  Gua Sha scraping and the suction of the cupping of the skin may cause splotchy red marks to appear in the area as the blood rises to the surface of the skin. These splotchy spots are known as Sha. The Sha only appears in tight areas of the body that actually need energy to release. Don't worry, the marks are painless and go away after a few days to a week.

Gua Sha and Cupping can be booked as a treatment of its own, or incorporated into any Therapeutic Massage Therapy Treatment (no additional charge).

People who are taking blood thinners or have clotting disorders aren’t good candidates for gua sha.
